From advertisers/editorial contributors: 'Many thanks for sending this through - it looks absolutely fantastic! Really pleased with how it turned out and its fantastic coverage of our range of stores!' LAUREN CARTWRIGHT, St. Enoch Shopping Centre 'I absolutely love it and have just showed it to some of the team here! Thanks so much it really looks great. Can't wait to see the mag when it's out!' Hannah Houston Marketing Manager, Brastop Limited From work experience students: 'When I arrived I was shown the three magazines that Craven Publishing produced. I really like End of Term because it was bright and cheerful. Abbie then showed me around the office and introduced me to each member of the team. They were all really friendly and all seemed to have a good time together. There was a really happy atmosphere in the office and that made me feel welcome. I spent the week doing lots of different activities. I did some proof reading, researching and writing. I even got to go out to House for an Art lover and do a proper interview and review of it. I also reviewed the Little Boots album. I had a great week working at Craven Publishing. I picked up lots of new skills which will help me in the future. I will enjoy getting a long lie in the morning now though. Getting the train from Edinburgh at 7am is harder than it sounds!' Katie McCann ‘I never thought I would have such a great time and I never knew there was so much to think about when it comes to producing a magazine! After Ros and Abbie visited my school to promote the magazine I was uber impressed by the quality of it and thought I might like to get involved! Now, not everyone envisions themselves doing work experience during the October break, but for me it didn¹t even feel like work because it was so much fun! My first day, I found out what sort of things work in a magazine and how to obtain the best research for it. I was also assigned two writing tasks! It was great, I had people making me the best hot chocolate ever but also the staff were so friendly and it was such a great working environment! My second day, the focus was the beauty page and we had samples from designer companies to try out - one of the best parts of the job! I also messed about with the page design of one of my articles all I can say is that it¹s not as easy as it looks! I was really surprised how much I was allowed to do because at my last work experience it was very limited, but I felt everything I suggested or did really mattered. I would definitely recommend going for work experience to End of Term as you get to learn the demanding life of a journalist but also have a good time!’ Niloo-Far Khan, Drummond Community High School ‘As much as I like school, it can get a bit dull being there five days a week. So I decided, if they let me, I’d go and do some work experience. I’d recently been given a copy of End of Term in school and loved the fact there was so much input from students and that there was a big focus on music. I emailed Abbie about the possibility of coming to work for them and thankfully, they agreed, so I spent four days there in January. During my work experience, I wrote an article on Edinburgh, an introduction to one of their competitions and interviewed my favourite unsigned band, The Void. One of my favourite things about working with End of Term was being given the opportunity to attend the Kerrang Relentless tour and write a review on it. With the hope of becoming a music journalist when I leave school, this was a fantastic experience. I really enjoyed everything about my time with the magazine, the staff were really friendly, the work was fun and I loved being in Glasgow. I’d definitely like to work with End of Term again.’ Lauren Macready, The Rudolf Steiner School |
