Pupils from a Primary School in Fife, who held healthy breakfast events in partnership with a local chain of convenience stores, were amongst the winners of a national enterprise competition. The Make Your Mark with a Tenner competition, run by Enterprise UK for students up to the age of 19, lends participants £10 for a month and challenges them to come up with a business that not only made the maximum profit but also benefits the wider community. The 20 pupils from Auchtermuchty Primary School set up a healthy breakfast event in partnership with a local convenience store chain David Sands Ltd. Organised and managed by the pupils, the event included advice and information on healthy eating. The pupils also invested some of their tenners in a Spring Fun Day, setting up a French café, playing musical instruments, selling home baked cakes and holding a raffle. The overall profit from the two events, £236.35, has been put towards the school’s playground equipment. Make Your Mark with a Tenner is funded by The Big Lottery Fund, Enterprise UK Chairman Peter Jones (from Dragons’ Den) and the founders of Bebo, Michael and Xochi Birch. Winners received £100 towards their business, and a special visit to their school from a leading entrepreneur. MORE: www.enterpriseuk.org
